Extreme Heat
High heat combined with high humidity can create dangerous Heat Index values that show the effect of the weather conditions on the body. The National Weather Service will issue an Excessive Heat Watch when dangerous heat index values can be expected in the next 1-3 days. A Heat Advisory will be issued when the heat index is forecasted to reach over 100 degrees for the next two days, and an Excessive Heat Warning when the heat index will be over 105 degrees for the next two days. The severe conditions can lead to heat-related illnesses such as Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke. The best way to protect yourself is to seek air-conditioned shelter, especially during the hottest part of the day (2-6 P.M.)
