A high pressure dome will trap heat and humidity causing an extreme heat wave before Summer officially begins in June. High temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s with heat indices rising from 105 to 109 degrees can be especially dangerous since your body is not yet fully acclimated to the summer heat. Hot temperatures will pose a risk from Tuesday May 21st until Tuesday May 28th with the hottest temperatures expected Friday through Sunday. A special weather statement has already been issued by the National Weather Service and Expect extreme heat watches, warnings, and/or advisories to be issued later this week. Avoid spending excessive time doing strenuous activity in the heat, especially during the hottest part of the day (3 P.M. - 7 P.M.), drink plenty of water, and try to spend as much time in the air conditioning as possible. Refer to WeatherWise's extreme heat flyer and page for more heat safety tips and information on how to recognize heat-related illness. Be sure to keep checking WeatherWiseSA.com for the latest alerts and updates from the National Weather Service. As always, stay safe and be WeatherWise!
