Very high dew points in the upper 70s combined with high heat will create excessive heat conditions Thursday afternoon with high temperatures in the upper 90s and heat index values up to 106. Avoid doing strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day (2-6 P.M.) and look out for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Refer to the Extreme Heat page on WeatherWiseSA.com and the WeatherWise extreme heat preparedness flyer for tips on how to stay safe in the heat.
Fortunately, a cold front coming in Thursday night will cool off temperatures heading into the weekend, but unfortunately it will cause a severe thunderstorm risk Thursday evening from 3-9 P.M. Northern Bexar County has an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms with the greatest risk being to the north and east toward Austin. The main threats are large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado. Make sure to monitor updates from the NWS on WeatherWiseSA.com and be ready to take shelter if a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued.
